• I have recently returned from a 3 week break. We drove from Dublin to the French Mediterranean coast with a little help from Irish Ferries. Most of our holidays are camping holidays. When I say camping, I mean actual camping with tent pegs and ground sheets and guys and all that jazz. Like all types of holidays, it has its pros and cons. One of the major pros, in my opinion, is the lack of electricity. We did cheat a little on the Mediterranean, this year, and rent a fridge. This meant we had electricity. However I stuck to my guns, allowing my phone to run down, only charging it in the car when directions and audio books were needed.

  • Now more than ever a blog is essential for any business. I have written previously about how your customers are using the internet for all manner of tasks. You can learn just about anything online now, book everything online, order all manner of services, you can even design custom fabric and get a pattern printed directly onto it and sent to you to sew. You can probably hire someone to sew it for you too! How do customers and clients find the products, services or contractors that they want? They use search and they use social referrals or finds. Think about your last five online purchases: what prompted you to purchase? When you think of recent online purchases which of

  • If your business has a Facebook page, the #DeleteFacebook movement may be causing you some concern. OnlineHub has some tips to help you mitigate losses. If you run a business in 2018 you probably have a Facebook page. Maybe you find it to be a huge source of income. It's possible that you painstakingly built an audience, sharing images, ideas, interesting, pertinent and timely information and links to sites. Maybe you have  purchased Facebook advertising. Maybe you did this all in good faith. You put time and effort and, in some cases, money into making this platform the hub of interest, entertainment, information and news that it is for many people. Only to find out that Facebook hasn't been 100%

  • Shadowban??? Yarra - WHA??!! I know I can't keep up either! The "shadowban" concept has been doing the rounds among the uberInstagrammers since last September. The term has been around on forums and in online gaming since 2006. What it means is that an account will no longer appear in search on Instagram or when a user clicks on a hashtag of interest to them.  A shadowbanned account will only appear to its followers or (heaven forfend!) not at all, depending on the gravity of the offence! It's called a shadowban because unless investigated, the offending account owner may not be aware that they are banned. It was developed as a way of stopping spammers and trolls from realising

  • Here in OnlineHub we love Facebook Advertising. We work with lots of clients, big and small, B2B and B2C, helping them convert customers, build brand awareness, generate leads and build email lists using Facebook. We've been getting pretty nerdy about it lately! One thing that can act as an initial stumbling block when we are working with clients is that they haven't yet started using Facebook Business Manager. This is a huge set of tools that Facebook has created for the business user to allow them to make the most out of their efforts on Facebook. Even if you are not planning on ever advertising on Facebook (we'll have that chat another day) this interface gives you access to your business

  • Do I have to write blog posts, update Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the latest social fad (SnapChat? Gawd halp us!) and keep a website updated? Roseanne considers this question in this blog post and offers some advice for how to manage your media. I was in the garden a good while back, having a coffee break. My neighbour Bob has 138 homing pigeons; he breeds them. They really are kind of amazing. For example, they are so attuned to "home" that they only perch on Bob's roof. It is rare that any of them even put a toe across the completely imaginary boundary between our house and Bob's. Talk about targeted! I was thinking that the reason Bob's pigeons exist is

  • My take aways from #measurement16, an annual conference run by Mulley Communications on the thorny issue of measuring online. A quick post to share some of the wisdom I garnered at this year's MeasurementConf. This annual conference does exactly what it says on the tin, focusing entirely on measuring the efficacy of online campaigns. This year the majority of presentations were from businesses at the coal face: practitioners of online marketing who are responsible for online or social within their own company. They don't work for an agency, they aren't trying to sell a product or a service to the audience, they are simply sharing their experience. Unfortunately, I was unable to stick around for the afternoon but if I
