Verification for all on Instagram
Great news last week for those of us using Instagram to promote our businesses. Instagram are beginning to open up verification to all users who want it. To date they only verified public figures, celebrities or global brands. They seem to have dialled back on the global part so once you pass their secret verification test as a brand you might just see that little blue tick beside your username.
“So what?” says you. Well this is a game changer for businesses using Instagram because it means you will finally FINALLY be able to add links to your Stories.
You will also have that little blue tic beside your profile name, increasing your trust among potential customers on Instagram. Once you get that tic, don’t rest on your laurels. Keep up the good work of engaging with the community and developing your network on the platform: you have a valuable channel to market your products and services.
In my opinion it’s a no-brainer for Facestagram to roll this out to more business accounts. Yes, by all means if they have the resources, curate it please. But if eyeballs can’t be converted to leads rather than carts, there are swathes of creative, service based companies that cannot justify time spent managing an Instagram channel. Sure if you have products and you are using Facebook Business Manager, you can tag your products on your connected Instagram account but it’s a hard aul slog for companies with no physical products.
How do you verify your account?
It could not be easier although some of the steps are a little hidden so we have some illustrative screengrabs below to make it easier for you to follow.
Log into the account you want to verify on your phone.
Click on the “Hamburger Button” to open up your account settings. (See Figure 1)
Click “Settings” at the very bottom beside the cog. (See Figure 2)
Scroll down a little bit and you will see “Request Verification”. (See Figure 3.)
When you click on this you will be asked to add your real name and to upload some official ID like a passport, driver’s licence, a national ID. Alternatively you can upload official business documents like an article of incorporation, a business utility bill or tax filing. When you click “Choose File” you will be able to use your camera to snap that document.
Then you just wait. I’ll update how long it takes when OnlineHub.ie gets its coveted blue tic.
We’d love to hear from you if you have already been verified. Leave us a comment below to tell us how long it took.
